All of the major bike manufacturers have finally realized that full-suspension frames are not only here to stay, but are the future of mountain biking. With many of the manufacturers constructing a wide range of full-suspension bikes, it has reduced the cost of them significantly.

Mountain Biking : The Future

Even small custom builders have started to offer full suspension bikes. Disc brakes are also becoming common on a lot of the lower range bikes and some major companies are also entering the sport: notably Honda with a revolutionary downhill bike with frame mounted gearbox. Also, Brembo are developing a disc brake to go in their range of high performance braking systems.

With BMX racing due to make its debut in the 2008 Olympics and with cross country cycling already a successful part of the Olympic games, it can only be a matter of time before downhill mountain biking becomes an Olympic sport.

Also, with downhill being a quiet and environmentally friendly sport it is likely to become a more popular sport amongst both gravity and extreme sport enthusiasts. Winter sportsmen are also finding mountain biking a good replacement for skiing and snowboarding in summer because it doesn't depend on the weather.
